Our bathroom has a small and narrow 3'x6' toilet room (which makes it impossible to photograph). It has no windows and a low ceiling. Not exactly the ideal place to do your business, but I'll be the first to say that it's really nice to have one all the same.
So I finally decided to just take an unguided plunge. The game plan is to paint the room in a color that makes us happy and then give it a focal point by adding a stenciled accent wall.

Eventually, colors palettes resembling robins egg and Tiffany blues called out to me most. They're bright enough to be cheery in a small room, but they're not so bold and bright that I would have trouble feeling relaxed inside. So I picked up a few paint chips and brought them home to consult with David. I taped the chips to the wall of the bathroom to see how the colors looked under the light.
Eventually, we settled on Behr #500C named "Spa" (it was meant to be!). We picked up a gallon of it in satin finish. This was our first time buying paint, and I have to say that it felt exhilarating to take a step into new territory! Under the helpful guidance of a Home Depot ex-painter, we got all the supplies we needed to complete the job. (Thanks, Al!)
So on Sunday afternoon, we went to work. Picture two amateur painters side-by-side squeezed in a tiny toilet room. It was a lot of fun. There's lots of bumping into each other and into just painted walls (oops). We had paint in our hair. We had paint on our clothes. At the end, no one cared. We successfully applied 2 coats of paint and then let dry overnight.
I have to admit, though. When we finished applying the first coat, I was kind of shocked by the sudden burst of color. Doubts bubbled up: Did we choose the right color? Is this too much for such a crowded room?
Thankfully, David remarked how he liked this new color much better than the beigy wall we had before. That really eased my doubts. At least one of us likes it! (Thank you, honey.) After sleeping on it for a night (and after the paint was sufficiently dried), I really began to love the color. Perfect sunny-to-relaxing balance. Not too over-powering after all, wouldn't you agree? :)
