So this is what our bedroom looks like now (if we make the bed).
There are so many things on my mind right now, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. So, let's talk about something completely inconsequential: art for the master bedroom. So this is what our bedroom looks like now (if we make the bed). My first inspiration is from this beautiful room. I've always loved that large-scale abstract black & white painting. In our bedroom though, it looks like a poor zebra has been cut in half. Sad. Then I found this interesting DIY painting. It's definitely smaller in scale and is basically a smattering of colors. I kind of like this one better. It fits into the background and maintains the calm. Then just for kicks, I was wondering what it'll look like with warmer colors. Would it liven the room and bring a dimension to it? Hmm, it looks out of place here since it's the only thing in the room with warm colors. So I went back to a cooler color and found this painting. It's a bit more interesting than just the splattering of color. And this looks totally DIY-able. But by now, I was appreciating our blank walls more and more. Maybe less is more? What do you guys think?

This past Sunday, we went whale watching with another couple. They had bought tickets for us as a "thank you" and we were glad to give whale watching a second try! Recall, last time we arrived at the whale watching dock, drugged no less, only to be told that the trip was cancelled due to choppy sea conditions. So we were happy to give it another go. We took motion sickness medication the night before and woke up really early at around 7 am on Sunday morning, had a light breakfast of oatmeal and carpooled to Monterey Fisherman's Wharf. The weather was absolutely perfect! The waves were said to be only 1-2 ft high and the sun was warm but not hot. It was really a perfect day. We walked into the wharf and found Randy's, the whale watching company we were sailing with. We had about 15 minutes to spare so we watched some sea lions sunbathing on this pier. I envied the sleep this particular seal must be having while perfectly balanced on the ledge. Just look at that peaceful face. And soon enough, we were off! The boat was smallish and I think there were around 25 people on the boat altogether. I've always loved the foamy waves behind a moving vessel. We're all crossing our fingers that we don't get sick and throw up. We saw some dolfins and maybe 10 gray whales altogether? The whales were kind of far off, though, so there are no good pictures to show the animal. Plus, we were all feeling a bit dizzy and no one was really in the mood to pull out the camera. The boat had this little indoor area. It's warmer inside but also stuffier. Toward the end of the trip, I went into the indoor area to warm up (it was a bit windy outside) and ended up falling asleep! Thank God, the trip ended well and none of us threw up. In fact, only one passenger threw up at all, so I think we were really lucky with sea conditions. When we got off the boat, I was extremely hungry and was craving for fried foods. The fish & calimari and chips was just perfect! Mmm. We then drove back home with the company of the Spamalot soundtrack. We dropped off the other couple at our house and then headed over to the bike shop to pick up our bikes (they were getting tuned up).
We rode home, visiting the Mountain View community garden on the way home. When we finally got home, it was probably around 6pm or so. We then took showers and felt so clean and good. I then fell asleep and didn't wake up again until this morning at around 7:30 am! It felt so good. :) I love Sundays. It's the one day of the week that is completely unpredictable. Saturday was not so good and felt extra awful since we lost an hour overnight. So I was determined to have the best Sunday ever. We woke up naturally at around noon on Sunday and did not feel guilty about it. We then went out to the garden because many of the freesia stems were blooming. Altogether, we were able to cut more than 10 stems! Felt like such a proud gardener. The day was already starting off so well! We then went to Bistro Maxine in Palo Alto for lunch. I ordered the Epinard crepe and a cafe au lait and had a delicious and relaxing meal. I've never had a bad and unhappy meal there. Then we stopped by West Elm to browse. I love this brightly colored storage box. And this highback settee is beautiful. Too bad it isn't that comfortable. I lamented that I don't need any chairs, because this one is just so nice. I was also really tempted by this mid-century office chair. Sure looks better than our current clunky office chairs at home. At the end, we bought the white Martini side table to put on our balcony. They were having a 20% off sale and I've been eyeing it for a while. After West Elm, we rode our bikes to the bike shop in Sunnyvale because our free tune ups were about to expire. It made me realize how much I missed cycling. There's a carefree feeling that comes with it that is good for my soul. We then dropped by Bambu (a drinks/desserts place) before riding the Caltrain home.
All in all, it was a really good and relaxing day. I'm glad we got to go outside and soak in the gorgeous Bay Area weather. |
