We thought we were going to be roasted alive in the 90-100 degree heat wave, but thankfully, the weather was pretty good. It was definitely on the warm side (80s?) but with a comfortable breeze.
I'm a sports lover and yet in all four decades of my existence, I've never been to a baseball game! Since the St Louis Cardinals (my team) are in town to play the Oakland A's, David got us tickets to go see them! We thought we were going to be roasted alive in the 90-100 degree heat wave, but thankfully, the weather was pretty good. It was definitely on the warm side (80s?) but with a comfortable breeze. It was so fun to see the Cardinal Nation fans show up in red gear. :) But you know, I hope that in the next decade or so we can transfer our loyalty to Bay Area teams. When Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki retire, I think I will become a Warriors fan. It seems like Cardinal fans have a much harder time transferring loyalty though. :) At the game we saw the cutest blimp ever! MINIONS!!! :D Jake Westbrook was on the mound today for the Cards and it wasn't a pretty outing for him. But the game was really exciting. I think there were 5 home runs and like 18 hits and 3 errors. Frustrating sometimes, but exciting. I hope someday to watch a Cards game at Busch Stadium! I'm putting that on my bucket list. I was surprised the attendance wasn't that great as the A's are incredibly good this year. David tells me Busch Stadium is always sold out and very well attended. For about 3 innings we moved back a few rows to catch the shade and it was heaven up there. Felt like we had personal A/C. :) All in all it was great fun even though we lost 5-7. Baseball fans seem much classier and calmer than basketball fans! We went to two Warriors games this year and those were loud and crazy and well...also fun. :) Just different. Hope we can catch more games in the future and hope the Cards sweep the Angels! :D

I was too lazy to make the bed this morning to take day photos so these photos from last night will have to do. We finally put everything back in its place after the paint job and I'm happy to call this bedroom done! Here's what it looked like before the blue accent wall. Honestly, I'm just glad to have gotten rid of the gray paint swatch above the lamp. That was an "oops" moment for me when I was testing gray paints. I had forgotten that we weren't painting that wall so yea, oops. And to be perfectly honest, I'm still getting used to the blue. I think it was everything I had hoped -- it's a happy, minty blue that isn't too muted or too "nursery". But somehow I am just startled by the burst of color and I start to think, "Should we have gone with a much paler and softer blue instead?" Anyone else always has second thoughts after painting? I do think it's very pretty, though. I'm thinking about giving the mirror a little bit of gold. I think it'll make it look very glam in here. And here is my nightstand with the nice blue background. I love all the little things on the nightstand. The photo is the two of us in Monet's Garden last year. The flowers are from our garden. I just love the wiener dog that is holding the color pencils. Somehow I've also found its neck to be useful for corralling all my loose hair ties. Poor doggie. And of course, the set of stacking bowls I got from West Elm recently. And lastly, this has nothing to do with the blue accent wall but our orchid next to the chair is blooming again. :) 6/28 Update: Thanks to David for making the bed this morning :)
I'm always surprised, shocked really, after seeing a wall in a new paint color. Then I get a pit in my stomach, "Did I pick the wrong paint color? Oh no, I really hope we're not repainting."
We started painting on Sunday night and stopped three-quarters of the way because we ran out of paint (we only bought one pint). After seeing the minty blue on the walls for the first time, I had serious doubts about my color choice. It just felt too bright to me. "I should've tested the color on the wall before committing," I lamented. David comforted me saying the paint is still drying so we should wait until it dries to see the actual color. Love my level-headed husband. Last night we dropped by Lowe's to pick up another pint of paint and finished the job. I woke up this morning and took these pictures and felt like the color was definitely not muted in any way, but it is somehow calming and peaceful. We'll see what it looks like in the evening. I'm crossing my fingers. I feel compelled to give an update on the tomatoes just because they are noticeably different from my last update. Just a quick review of their growth: here they are planted on March 25th. By May 2nd, they've passed the 3rd ring of the cage... ...and today they've sort of completely outgrown the cage and look like someone with a very bad hair day. Except...they look like this everyday and I love it! (What can I say? I'm a delusional parent.) And do you see all those dots of orange up there? Yup! They're all ripening sungolds. The following picture is a closeup of a glorious tomato vine. When they reach a deep shade of orange and have a slight "give" when I feel it, I harvest it. The following is pretty much how many we harvest a day. Today we enjoyed them with some avocados lightly sprinkled with sea salt and ground pepper. Delicious!
So about a month ago, I mentioned we were going to give our bedroom an accent wall. I knew I wanted a happy and calm minty blue and got a collection of paint chips from Lowe's. Then a few Sundays ago we went to Bistro Maxine in Palo Alto for crepes and ended up stopping by West Elm. And I saw these pretty little bowls. The bowls are just beautiful and we handed over the nine-bucks and brought them home. I actually think they look better in real life if that's possible. But what struck me was the color palette -- gray, beige and a minty blue! Basically the color palette of our bedroom! The following picture of the larger bowls probably shows the color better. When we got home, I held up some of the paint chips against the pretty minty blue bowl and decided on Valspar's Mint Whisper. We got the paint already and now it's just a matter of picking a night to do it. Hopefully Spurs win today and I can paint on Thursday. :)
June is such a rewarding month for a gardener. All the hard work you put in the past few months finally come to fruition. I've tried growing cosmos for a two years now and I've never gotten a flower....until this year. :) This afternoon I snipped off two cosmos flowers and some yellow mums. They make a sweet and happy little bouquet together. The sad thing is I had a whole pot of cosmos seedlings thriving in a pot, but the squirrels dug so much into it that only a few seedlings survived. Oh well, at least I still have a few seedlings left right? Hopefully they grow into flowers, too. :)
Being able to cut flowers to bring inside makes me very happy and proud. :) Two hydrangeas will be pretty in any vase.
The other title for this post would be "Visiting Family in Seattle". But I thought the one up there is more accurate. When people asked me what we did in Seattle, my best summary was, "We ate." So here we go. We landed on Saturday evening and had really yummy Vietnamese food (which I didn't take pictures of, boo). Then we went home and had a mango cake as dessert. Mom said this was a "celebrate everything" cake. All our birthdays this year that we didn't spend together due to the distance and things like that. The next morning on Sunday, we went to Ikea because Tiana wanted to buy a mattress. Apparently if you spend $150 at Ikea, they let you eat for free. Behold our table of Ikea food. David and I agree that we probably need a one month break from Ikea food after this. For dinner we had Mom's beef noodle soup! The handmade noodles and the light but deep broth makes this really sumptuous and special. Mmm! Then on Monday, Tiana took us to a coffee shop. I forgot the name of it now. We had our lattes with Ikea cinnamon rolls (they don't sell any food or patries for some reason). Then that evening we had really good Thai food! I think we're just deprived because we haven't found a good Thai place in the bay area yet. Tiana took a day off Tuesday and took us to Pacific Grill in downtown for lunch. It was a pretty fancy place and I got this really good prawn/shrimp/crab salad. David was very satisfied with his duck sausage + homemade chips dish. All I kept thinking was, "Poor arteries". We took a short walk to the Union Station (now a courthouse). The weather was good for about 10 minutes. Dogwoods were in full bloom. Here's a traveller at the entrance of Union Station. Inside the station were works of the famous glass sculptor, Dale Chihuly. This hanging piece in the middle was pretty incredible. I also love all the trim work in here. There were also these glass sculptures on the window. As you can see, it started to rain. Then we went home and had dinner courtesy of mom. Here's a chicken dish. By now vegetables and fiber sounded really good so I ate a lot of this veggie dish. This light soup was also really good. I had two bowls! Mom gave me a bottle of sauerkraut so I can make it at home, too. I didn't touch this one but it looked very pretty. We sort of had an early dinner that day because Tiana had a rehearsal for her choral performance on Saturday. We basically twisted her arm to let us go. :D She dropped us off at the library first so it wouldn't be awkward and as we were walking to the church we saw a pretty rainbow. The next morning was Wednesday and we packed up for our afternoon flight. Before we left, we had Taiwanese porridge for brunch. I love Taiwanese porridge, but it's one of those things that takes so much effort to prepare all those little dishes. Mom made those salted eggs herself and they were so good. After brunch we went to a nearby park to just walk around before going to the airport. Our walk was cut short because it started to rain. I think next year we should stick to July or August when visiting Seattle so we can at least go outside and walk off the food. :) Anyway, that was how we gained 2 lbs in 4 days. My jeans barely fit at the end of the trip and it was a bit painful. :D But it was really, really nice not having to cook or worry about food!
