The first thing I did when I went home (a habit now) is to check up on our friends in the garden. I really took my time yesterday. I was enjoying the smell of honeysuckle, orange and lemon blossoms. It's was probably 5:30 PM when I was done and David's still at work. Hmm. What to do?
I went upstairs to our office/guest room/crafts room/insert-your-name-here, and decided to sew a pillow cover. A while ago, I had purchased a fat quarter of this fabric along with the fabric we used for the rocking chair.
The other night I went to Ikea to pick up a 24"x16" pillow insert. I like Ikea pillow inserts. This is the 5th one I've bought, although in a different size. Not only are they reasonably priced, they are filled with feathers and contours nicely against your back. They don't clump at all, as no pillows should.
Finally, I brought out the sewing machine (so glad this thing is portable), plugged it in, threaded the needle and was ready to roll. Enveloped pillow covers are easy sews (and very forgiving for beginners like myself) so I won't bore anyone with details on how to do this. This video is excellent if you are interested. I did incorporate a trick my Mom taught me to avoid fraying during wash and I've learned since that it's called the French seam. Fancy name, huh?
And here it is! Resting happily on our bed. Oh the "mustaches" amuse me to no end. Doesn't it just look like it's smiling happily with ruffled mustaches like that? Okay maybe not to you. That's okay with me.
