So the planning is done, time to measure, tape & paint!
So Pinterest challenge #3 is to paint stripes in the guest bath. Last week I measured the room and it was 92" tall. Our ceiling is the beige color but I planned on painting it white so it will look bright on top. And since the baseboard is also white, it means I will need an odd number of stripes. So I took out a piece of paper and drafted a "blueprint" to see how tall the stripes should be and how many stripes I will end up with. At the end I settled on 11 stripes, each approximately 8.34" tall. I also approximately drew in where the light, mirror & painting would be and hoped that they would be centered in the stripes. As you see, the light (shown as the circle) isn't centered but the mirror & painting (shown as rectangles) look better centered. And honestly, I can always move the painting so that it ends up dead centered. By the way, If you don't understand this drawing, it's okay. I think I'm the only one that understands it (much like my handwriting). It's whole purpose was to give me a visual picture of what the room will look like before stripes end up on the wall. I'm a very visual learner. I then contemplated on what color the stripes should be. I've brought paint chips of varying creams and white home and I felt like I was splitting hairs trying to decide on a color. So at last I just took out our Glidden white-on-white paint sample (same paint we used for stenciling) and gave it a try. Don't know about you but that looks pretty good to me! I decided right then and there to just get a gallon of straight up white paint - nothing added. I settled on the Olympic brand because it emits less VOC.

So I got an email this morning from Anthropologie saying that they've cancelled my Urchin Test Knob order because they are no longer in stock. I'm feeling the humor as I've just posted a Home Furnishing Spending Moratorium. But I'm also feeling a bit sad because I was really looking forward to these. *Sigh. Oh well.
So today I bought this lamp because shipping was free. *sigh. This on top of the Anthropologie urchin test knobs and the CB2 magazine rack that I got in the last month put me way over budget. I'm usually over budget, but not this over-budget. Usually I plan to be within budget again in the next month. Frankly, it's irresponsible but I can't seem to restrain myself.
So I'm thinking about a Home Furnishing Spending Moratorium effective immediately. Here are the terms:
And what better way than a post on my blog to hold me accountable? Oh dear. I hope I make it. I really do. I really love Autumn. And the weather this week has been beautiful (yes, even with the rain and all!) The air turned noticeably crisp and it's been absolutely horrible getting out of bed in the morning. Too bad it's going to be 80 degrees again next week. Boo. I've been thinking about actually decorating for Fall. Yes, I'm still Asian and it seems like a waste of money & time to do seasonal decoration, and I can't really explain why I want to do this but it has something to do with seizing the moment (season) and enjoying the process (not just the results) of things. Not sure if that made sense to any of you (not sure if that even made sense to me) but that's sort of what I'm feeling right now. It's in tune with this saying that I like so much: When you have 2 pennies left in your pocket, buy a loaf of bread with one and a lily with the other. This is the buying the lily moment for me. Today I went to Home Depot during lunch to browse. The weather was just so perfect! Sunny, with temperature in the upper 60s. I can stay outside the whole day in this weather. I saw that 1 gallon mums were only 2/$5 so I got one in beautiful shades of orange - perfect for autumn! And I also got an assortment of smaller yellow, orange and deep red mums for the planter. Isn't that orange really pretty? I paid a total of $10 for all these mums. And yep, this was my first investment so far for Autumn and I'm loving it!
So a couple of months ago, we went to buy bean seeds after being inspired by a storefront on Sequim. We planted 4 seeds and 3 sprouted! Honestly, I didn't show them nearly as much love & attention as I did the tomato. I barely watered them at all, not to mention watch out for disease. Thankfully they had David who faithfully watered them and even picked out the white flies once in a while. As far as I know, seeing the beans is like seeing a nephew or niece who lived in another city. I was always surprised by how fast they were growing. The first time I checked up on them, they grew nice large leaves and started to climb the trellis we gave them. The next time, all of them have already reached the top of the trellis. Then, they had beautiful white flowers. And yesterday, we noticed that there were long, string beans! Right under our noses! Oh happy day! I love nice surprises in the garden and I love plants that are low-maintenance. Anyone want to grow beans? We still have seeds!
