I had planned for us to get some late lunch at Mymy Coffee Shop from 1:30-2:30pm, then drop by the Cable Car Museum from 2:30-3:30 and then go ice skating (our time slot was 4-5:30 pm). We left the house for Millbrae BART station at around noon and got to the station at 12:25 pm for the train at 12:41 pm, which will drop us off at Powell Station at 1:10 pm.
Well things did not go according to plan at all. First of all the train ended up being delayed and it didn't leave until nearly 1 pm from Millbrae and it dropped us off at SFO! We had to get off and wait for the next train to take us to SF. I was really frustrated by that because had I known it would be delayed this much and we were getting off at SFO, we would've left Millbrae and drove to Daly City BART station instead. Urgh. I don't deal well with incompetence (I mean, what transit system does not keep the riders informed?!) and I felt like we wasted so much precious time. I mean, we were 2 miles away from Millbrae Station an hour and a half after we arrived! Totally not acceptable!
So we ended up arriving at Powell Station at 2:20 pm, power walked to Mymy coffee shop (because it closes at 3pm). We got stuck behind 3 pot/cigarette smokers a few times and lost a few years of our lives. Goodness, so glad we don't live in the city. We get there at 2:40 pm just to hear the waitress tell us that the kitchen had just closed. Huh? Since when do restaurants stop serving food 20 minutes before closing?! I hate the city.
So by this time I was hungry and cranky and generally just not a lot of fun. We started to walk back towards Union Square in search for food. David suggested that we just pop in the first cafe we see and I reluctantly agreed. I was really expecting hot food and I didn't really eat breakfast at all in anticipation of a good lunch. *sigh.
So luck wasn't completely cruel to us that day and the first cafe we saw looked pretty inviting. It was a cafe that was part of a hotel, which I frankly don't remember the name of now. We ordered hot sandwiches, a cafe latte and a huge chocolate chip cookie. Here I am looking much chipper.
