I'm quite relieved at the end that we didn't host because I realize how unprepared I am to host large parties. I would've been completely stressed out with the 20+ people and the children who came. But they seem to do it with ease and grace. Linda just whips up stuff in the kitchen like it's no big deal. And Jason's a master at the grill. It's really quite amazing to me. I simply look on with admiration.
David and I have remarked that we're thankful there are quite a few couples at Pacifica Church who are good at entertaining crowds and willing to host fellowships in their homes. We secretly hope that someday we can do the same so we've sort of put ourselves out there a couple of times, like inviting people over after NYR...which proved to be more people than our little home can handle.
One of the factors we considered when purchasing our home was whether it can host things for church, and we should really put it in practice more. I realize that it takes more than just a willing heart for this. I really need to buy more pitchers (for water and drinks) and some larger plates/platters and serving utensils. I also need to get my hands on some recipes that are good for crowds and not too stressful for me to make. I'd hate to entertain and be stuck in the kitchen the whole time! And...should we get a grill?
Well, there's a ways to go for me, but I'm thankful for the inspiration to serve more with our home.
