- Make sure you have at least 3 days for this project. Making paper mache is easy, but it takes 24-48 hours for each layer to dry and you want at least 2 layers to make it sturdy enough to hold the candy/goodies inside. So plan ahead.
- If it doesn't dry in time, use a blow dryer on COOL. Do not use warm or hot air! You can also use a fan to blow at it, which we did with good success as well.
- 6 sheets of tissue paper will do it for this project. No need to buy too much. The color of the pinata will be the same as 2-3 layers of tissue paper stacked together.
- If you don't want the newspaper to show through, use copy paper for the top layer.
- Use "punch balloons" to get the circular shape. Traditional balloons are more oblong so it'll look more like a pear. Which is totally fine if that's what you want. You can find punch balloons at Walgreens, 2/$1.
- Try not to put chocolate in the pinata. It could melt in there! So skip Lindt or Godiva or any high-end brand if you must have chocolate.
